ThermoLite Mockneck Underscrub for Cold ORs

Product Description
Shipping & Returns

Built for a cold OR. The ThermoLite Mockneck Underscrub is engineered specifically for the nurses, techs, and surgeons who spend ten hours in a 64-degree operating room and still need full range of motion under a scrub top. Mid-weight thermal warmth, mockneck coverage, low-bulk fit under your sleeve, no scratchy seam at the cuff.

Extra warmth without the bulk. Our ThermoLite features a cozy mockneck design with mid-weight thermal insulation, perfect for cold operating rooms and chilly night shifts. Tagless comfort and smooth layering under any scrub set or surgical gown.

Engineered for cold ORs

Operating rooms run cold on purpose. The standard OR sits at roughly 65-68°F, and many sterile-field rooms run colder to slow bacterial growth and keep the surgeon comfortable under sterile gowns. For the OR nurses, scrub techs, and circulators in the room with the patient, that means seven to twelve hours in an environment colder than most people's refrigerator hallways. A regular cotton tee under your scrubs doesn't cut it — and a chunky thermal turns into a bulky lump under a scrub sleeve.

The ThermoLite is the in-between we needed. The thermal poly-spandex knit traps a layer of warm air against the skin without adding visible bulk. The mockneck rises high enough to cover the exposed throat under a V-neck scrub top — the single coldest spot on most OR nurses on a long case. The fit stays close to the body so a scrub top still drapes the way it's supposed to. Stay warm in the OR without compromising your scrub top's silhouette.

The mockneck is the detail that makes this underscrub for OR nurses different from a regular thermal long sleeve. On a long case in a cold operating room, the exposed strip of skin between a V-neck scrub top and your collarbone is where you lose warmth first. A crew-neck thermal covers that spot, but a crew-neck stops at the collarbone — exactly where the V of the scrub top begins — so the thermal layer becomes visible through the V. The ThermoLite mockneck rises above that line, so what shows through the V is a clean ribbed mockneck panel that reads as intentional, not a base-layer that's poking through. It's an underscrub for OR nurses who don't want to choose between staying warm and looking professional.

Fit & sizing

The ThermoLite Mockneck runs close to the body — not compression, but trim enough that it sits flat under a scrub top without bunching at the underarm or twisting at the waist. The mockneck rises about 2.5 inches off the collarbone; tall enough to cover bare skin under a V-neck scrub top, short enough that it doesn't choke under a higher crew. Long sleeves end at the wrist with a flat-knit cuff that doesn't bind under a scrub sleeve. Hem hits at the high hip so it tucks cleanly into scrub pants and stays put when you bend or squat.

Order your regular top size for a close in-room layering fit. If you wear an additional mid-layer over the ThermoLite (rare, but some CRNAs do on overnight cardiac cases), size up one. Full measurements on our size guide.

Evidence panel

Claim: ThermoLite is a 185 GSM mid-weight thermal knit designed to add warmth under scrubs without visible bulk.
Method: Fabric weight verified per mill spec sheet. Bulk-under-scrub assessment by founder wear-testing under standard scrub tops in front of a mirror and on a working OR floor.
Source: Ala Underscrubs founder wear-testing + production records, 2025-2026.
Limitations: "Warm" is relative to the wearer and to room temperature. We make no specific insulation or CLO-value claim. Thermal performance is a fiber + weight property, not a clinical-grade measurement.
Date last updated: 2026-06-03

Claim: Mockneck rises approximately 2.5 inches off the collarbone — sized to cover exposed skin under a V-neck scrub top.
Method: Pattern measurement at the centerline. Coverage verified against the four most-common V-neck scrub tops on the market (FIGS Casma, Wonderwink Renew, Cherokee Workwear, Grey's Anatomy Active).
Source: Ala Underscrubs pattern records + in-house photo documentation, 2026.
Limitations: Coverage varies by your specific scrub top's neckline depth. Deeper V-necks (some Jaanuu sets) may still show a sliver of the mockneck — that's a styling choice, not a defect.

Claim: Polyester thermal knit holds insulating warmth even when damp — relevant for long surgical cases where sweat accumulates under sterile gowns.
Method: Property of polyester fiber — published material-science data from the fiber producer.
Source: Generic polyester technical literature.
Limitations: We make no claim about specific thermal-retention values under wet conditions. The fabric is designed to maintain dimensional stability and keep its insulating air-gap structure when damp — not to be a wetsuit.

Care instructions

Machine wash cold on a regular cycle with like colors. Tumble dry low. No fabric softener — it coats the thermal poly and reduces wicking performance over time. No bleach. The flat-lock seams stay flat through repeated washes when you follow these basics. Skip dryer sheets for the same reason as the softener.

Pairs with

The ThermoLite is your go-to layer when the OR is set cold or the night shift turns long. Pair it under any V-neck scrub top for full mockneck coverage. For very long cases or back-to-back surgical days, layer the AeroKnit Seamless underneath the ThermoLite for an extra moisture-wicking base — the AeroKnit handles the sweat, the ThermoLite handles the temperature. If you only need light warmth (clinic environment, not OR), the FlexForm Compression Long Sleeve runs lighter and closer to the body. See the full shop all underscrubs collection.

Founder note

"I worked in some genuinely cold units. By the end of a shift in an OR running at sixty-five, you don't want bare arms under a thin scrub top. ThermoLite is what I wanted then."
— Alyssa, RN, co-founder

Why this price

Thermal poly-spandex blends cost more than cotton tees, and engineering a mockneck that sits flat under a V-neck scrub top took several rounds of pattern work before we shipped it. We don't run flash sales and we ship from St. George, Utah so returns and exchanges work in days, not weeks. The price is what it costs to ship one underscrub for OR nurses that solves the actual problem of staying warm in a cold operating room without compromising your scrub silhouette, instead of three thermal layers that almost do. If the cold OR is your daily reality, the ThermoLite Mockneck is the underscrub we'd build for you — and did.
